Introduction

This diploma has been designed to provide non-native learners of Arabic with a solid and progressive foundation in the language, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The diploma consists of four consecutive short programs, each moving the learner to a new level of language proficiency, from beginner level (A1) to upper-intermediate level (B1+).

General Objectives of the Associate Diploma in Arabic Language for Non-Native Speakers (Online)

Upon successful completion of the diploma requirements, the learner will be able to:

1. Effective communication: interacting with increasing confidence in a variety of daily and professional situations, from simple conversations to participating in discussions on familiar topics.

2. Comprehensive understanding: understanding spoken and written texts of varying complexity, from short announcements to the main points in radio programs and articles on contemporary issues.

3. Language production: producing coherent and clear spoken and written texts to describe personal experiences, express opinions, and present simple arguments.

4. Cultural competence: gaining a basic understanding of Arabic culture through the language, facilitating intercultural communication.

5. Independent learning: developing the skills necessary to continue learning Arabic independently after completing the program.

Micro Program Objectives

The detailed diploma objectives have been divided according to each micro program, in line with the skills defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Micro Program 1: (A1)

Description:
This program aims to enable the learner to understand and use very basic everyday expressions and interact simply in familiar situations.

Description:
This program focuses on enabling the learner to communicate effectively in simple and routine tasks that require direct exchange of information on familiar topics.

Description:
This program aims to enable the learner to understand the main points of familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, and deal with most situations while traveling in an Arabic-speaking environment.

Micro Program 4: (B1+)

Description:
This program enhances the learner’s linguistic independence, enabling them to handle more complex texts and participate confidently in discussions, while providing clear and detailed descriptions across a wide range of topics.

Micro Program One: Beginner Level (A1)

General Description: Enabling the learner to understand and use basic everyday expressions and interact in a simple way.

Listening and Speaking

Listening and Speaking (1) includes a number of topics related to greetings and introductions, how to welcome others and introduce oneself to them, getting to know family, relatives, and friends, identifying nationality, and other topics related to daily life.

Understanding familiar words and very basic phrases concerning oneself, one’s family, and immediate surroundings when people speak slowly and clearly.

Listening and Speaking (1) includes a number of topics related to greetings and introductions, how to welcome others and introduce oneself to them, getting to know family, relatives, and friends, identifying nationality, and other topics related to daily life.

Understanding familiar names, words, and very simple sentences, for example in notices, posters, or catalogues.

Reading and Writing

Reading and Writing (1) includes a number of topics related to greetings and introductions, self-introduction, friends and relatives, in addition to learning Arabic letters and how to write them.

The learner is able to recognize Arabic letters, read simple words, write short sentences, and communicate basically in daily life situations.

Micro Program Two: Elementary Level (A2)

General Description: Enabling the learner to communicate in simple and routine tasks that require a direct exchange of information.

Listening and Speaking (2) includes many topics such as family, family occasions, cities and landmarks, university life, and language institutes, including many asynchronous digital activities and exercises.

Understanding frequently used expressions related to areas of immediate relevance (such as shopping, work, and local geography). Understanding the main points in short, clear messages and announcements.

Communicating in simple routine tasks. Participating in very short social exchanges. Using a series of phrases and sentences to describe family, other people, living conditions, educational background, and current or recent work.
